Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL)

SSTL and Space Norway announced a strategic partnership where SSTL will contribute satellite design and payload expertise for Space Norway’s radar/high‑resolution maritime spacecraft; SSTL is working on the first spacecraft planned for initial operational service in 2027.

SSTL has built and delivered spacecraft, subsystems and mission studies to ESA programmes and supported ESA technology and missions (SSTL delivers small satellites and mission services used by ESA programmes).

SSTL (again noted via ESA pages) is contracted/partnered to develop/operate the Lunar Pathfinder spacecraft that will provide lunar communications/navigation services for ESA and commercial users.

SSTL is a direct ESA partner and contractor: ESA signed a partnership agreement with SSTL to develop the Lunar Pathfinder spacecraft and the Commercial Lunar Mission Support Services (CLMSS) to provide lunar communications/navigation services that enable ESA missions and commercial lunar activity.

SSTL provides and receives technology and capability development through ESA programmes (e.g., NAVISP); SSTL is listed by ESA NAVISP as a supplier/actor delivering small-satellite platforms, subsystems and mission studies supporting ESA civil programmes and technology transfer.

Viasat provides part of the Real Time Earth (RTE) ground-station network and SSTL hosts one of the Viasat RTE ground stations at its Guildford site; Viasat therefore supplies ground network capability and SSTL integrates that infrastructure into its operations.

Historically, SSTL carried commercial experiments and payloads for NASA on early UoSAT missions and has collaborated with NASA on mission experiments and payload hosting (UoSAT-era commercial experiments stated as clients including NASA).

SSTL and Goonhilly formalised a long-term close working relationship to deploy in-space communication relay services, with Goonhilly expected to receive data relay and transmit data back to payload customers on Earth for SSTL relay projects.

SSTL signed a collaboration agreement with Goonhilly and ESA in 2018 for commercial lunar mission support services, including development of Lunar Pathfinder and related deep-space capabilities that enable Goonhilly's offerings.

Goonhilly is the Earth-station endpoint for SSTL's proposed lunar data-relay services; SSTL planned to use Goonhilly to receive relay data and distribute it to payload customers on Earth.
